Risk factors for postnatal depression

Risk factors for postnatal depression:



* Perceived lack of social support

* Not breastfeeding

* Having a caesarian or forceps delivery or otherwise difficult labour

* Labour and birth not meeting expectations

* Feeling dissatisfied with some aspects of maternity care

* Past history of depression or previous postnatal depression.

* Family history of psychiatric disorders

* Adverse life events

* Difficult relationship with parents or partner

* Unrealistic expectations of motherhood
