NSW:Roxon, Shorten in planned reshuffle
Prime Minister JULIA GILLARD is expected to announce a Cabinet reshuffle today, appointing
NICOLA ROXON as Australia's first female attorney-general and promoting assistant Treasurer
BILL SHORTEN to workplace relations.
News Ltd newspapers report Ms ROXON, 44, currently Health Minister, has a law degree
and was a judge's associate to former High Court Justice MARY GAUDRON, and was previously
opposition attorney-general.
Mr SHORTEN, also 44, has been in parliament for only four years and backed Ms GILLARD
when she ousted KEVIN RUDD as prime minister, with Fairfax newspapers reporting the reshuffle
is designed partly to shore up Ms GILLARD'S position against Mr RUDD.
Other changes include offering Industry Minister KIM CARR, who is now in cabinet, a
junior ministry and offering Attorney-General ROBERT MCCLELLAND a new portfolio related
to homeland security.
The prime minister's office yesterday wouldn't comment on the makeup or timing of a reshuffle.
