Qld: Parliamentary tribute to Queen Mother.

BRISBANE, April 9 AAP - Queensland parliament today paid tribute to the Queen Motherand her service to the Commonwealth.

Premier Peter Beattie formally extended his sympathy and condolences to the Queen andthe entire royal family for their loss.

The Queen Mother died on March 31 aged 101.

"On behalf of the people of Queensland we express our deep sympathy to the Her Majestythe Queen and other members of the royal family," Mr Beattie said.

Mr Beattie outlined the Queen Mother's remarkable life.

"She was a much loved and respected member of the royal family. She represented allthat was dignified and positive in the royal family," Mr Beattie said.

"She leaves behind a public deeply saddened by her death."

Opposition Leader Mike Horan joined with the premier in extending his condolences andreiterating the importance of the monarchy to Australia.

"The monarchy remains a symbol of Australia's historic place as a free nation governedby the will of its people and the crown," Mr Horan said.

Members of Parliament took a minute of silence to pay respect to the Queen Mother andthose she left behind.
