Qld: Mass screenings starts over HIV fear
Patients being mass screened for the deadly HIV virus in a north Queensland community
have come out in support of the female dentist at the centre of the health scare.
But officials say there are no known cases of transmission of HIV in Australia between
a dentist and a patient.
More than 600 people .. including a large number of children .. are expected to be
tested over the next week after the Bowen-based dentist .. employed by Queensland Health
.. tested HIV positive.
Queensland Health chief health officer JEANNETTE YOUNG says 549 patients had been treated
by the dentist at Bowen and Collinsville hospitals since December 15 last year.
That figure is expected to incresae significantly though .. with the total number of
children examined by the dentist at school clinics in the region yet to be determined.
Even though there's some criticism .. many patients have rallied behind the dentist
.. offering words of encouragement and support ..san some saying everybody loves her.
