Fed: Gillard's megaportfolio needs back up: Greens

ADELAIDE, April 29 AAP - The overburdened Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard needs
back up to deliver on higher education commitments, the Australian Greens say.

Greens education spokeswoman Sarah Hanson-Young has called for a parliamentary secretary
to ease the burden on Ms Gillard - who also holds the employment, workplace relations
and social inclusion portfolios, as well as education.

In a speech to the annual Higher Education summit in Adelaide on Thursday, Senator
Hanson-Young said she hoped education would be top of the agenda in the upcoming federal
budget.

"After all, education is fundamental pillar of our society crucial to our social and
economic progress as a nation," she said at the Summit.

"The Greens are today calling for the establishment of a higher education parliamentary
secretary who can hear the concerns of the sector directly and action their feedback."
